Named SPA leader, Dudena is in charge of supervising Brazil's betting laws.

Having been appointed head of the secretariat of prizes and bets for Brazil, Regis Dudena will supervise the control of betting in the nation.

Declared in Brazil's Official Gazette of the Union, it was said that lawyer Dudena would take over as prize and betting secretariat (SPA) leader. The chief of staff for the Brazilian government signed Dudena's appointment.

Comprising a ministry of finance, the SPA will coordinate the framework of control in addition to releasing upcoming policies. Previously without a head, the SPA had Simone Vincentini acting as deputy secretary.

Dudena has past experience working in public law and regulations. He has also been legal manager for the National Association of Railway Carriers (ANTF).

Dudena's new post will involve overseeing betting regulation in Brazil. Following Bill 3,626/2023 signed into law by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in December last year, the nation is in process of controlling the market.

Through Normative Ordinance No 615, the SPA and Brazilian ministry of finance released fresh guidelines on gambling last week. Among the new regulations is the ban on operators taking bets with credit cards or cryptocurrencies.

With a four-stage rollout of rules under way right now, Brazil hopes to finish by the end of July 2024. First, and presently in progress, is the stage of payments, security, and technological framework implementation.

The second stage will see the SPA releasing its policies on fraud, covering counter-terrorism financing plans and anti-money laundering measures. Third phase will concentrate on technical and security issues as well as advertising practices. At finally, the focus of the last stage will be on how the sector supports social responsibility projects.

Earlier in April, it was also revealed that sports betting advertising in Brazil will need adherence to ministry of finance rules.

The General Competition Regulations of the Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) for 2024 state that advertising has to follow rules including illegitimate operators not allowed to advertise.

Additionally outlawed are unsubstantiated assertions in advertising about the likelihood of winning as well as marketing that promotes gambling as a socially acceptable past time or as a means of financial relief.

Using celebrities or other powerful people to promote gambling items is another limitation on operators.
